Growth in Exports

India’s fruit exports have increased by 47.5% over the last five years, driven by trade agreements and improved logistics. Major exported fruits include mangoes, grapes, bananas, apples, pineapples, pomegranates, and watermelons.

Market Expansion

India exports fresh fruits to over 85 countries. Recent market access has been achieved for bananas in Canada, pomegranate arils in the U.S., Australia, Serbia, and New Zealand, and whole pomegranates in Australia. Trade agreements have also boosted exports to key destinations like the UAE and Australia.

Government Initiatives

The government is strengthening post-harvest facilities, cold chain networks, and quality control measures to ensure compliance with international standards. Investments in integrated pack houses, reefer vehicles, and in-house testing facilities are improving fruit longevity and reducing pesticide residues. Participation in global trade fairs and promotional campaigns has enhanced India’s market presence.

Infrastructure and Technology

To facilitate long-distance exports, authorities are developing sea transport protocols for fruits like mangoes, oranges, and pineapples. Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) and Hot Water Treatment (HWT) are being utilized to meet quarantine requirements in different markets.

Future Prospects

With continuous improvements in supply chains and quality control, India is exploring new markets and enhancing export potential, aiming for sustainable growth in the global fruit trade.
